⚠️

  • Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency.
This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk

  • Call 111 if you have an urgent medical problem and you’re not sure what to do

  • UCLH is the nearest A&E Department to UCL’s main campus

Register with a GP

It is important to register with your doctor as soon as possible after arrival to have quick access when needed. UCL recommends registering at Ridgmount GP for being UCL's partner GP surgery and closeness to campus. However, you can register with whichever GP you’d like.

Ridgmount Practice

  • Register with your GP at:

Ridgmount Practice

8 Ridgmount Street

London

WC1E 7AA

  • Opening time: Monday to Friday 0900-1730

  • Phone: +44 20 7387 6306

How to register

  • If you are a UCL student and live in a Hall of Residence you must complete the online registration form found on the website or via www.campusdoctor.co.uk/ucl

  • Once you have completed the form, you have to go for a face-to-face consultation with a nurse or GP

  • If you have problems registering with a GP surgery, call the NHS England Customer Contact Centre on 0300 3112 233

Eligible postcodes

UCL students living in the following postcodes may register with the practice:

  • EC1 EC2 EC3 EC4

  • N1 N4 N5 N6 N7 N8 N10 N11* N13 N15 N16 N17 N19 N22

  • NW1 NW3* NW5 NW6* NW8

  • SW1 SW3 SW5 SW7

  • WC1 WC2

  • W1 W2 W8* W9* W10* W11*

Not all streets in postcodes marked with * are eligible for registration.

A&E (Accident and Emergency)

If you suffer from severe or urgent conditions and accidents, A&E can be an option for you

  • Longer waiting times compared to GP

  • Alternatively, GP can refer you to the hospital for certain medical procedures (such as X-ray)

Vaccinations and Medication

Required vaccinations

  • MMR vaccine

  • Meningitis ACWY vaccine

It is recommended that you take these vaccines in Hong Kong in case of any side effects. However, you can also receive the vaccination at Ridgmount Practice during your registration with the GP.

Medication

Some medications may require medication in the UK but not in Hong Kong, so make sure to check which ones are allowed at Customs before choosing what medicine to bring with you. You can consider bringing some niche medicine with you while stocking up on other medicine as needed once you arrive in the UK.

  • Common drugs sold in most pharmacies (eg. Boots): Paracetomol, Ibuprofen

  • Controlled drugs (ADHD, Antidepressants): Request for a doctor's letter stating your personal details, drug name and required dosage - this is to prove that the drug is prescribed to you and prevents customs from confiscating your medication at the customs

UCL Student Psychological and Counselling Services

How they can help

Managed by UCL’s own team of professional counsellors, the Student Psychological and Counselling Services (SPCS) provide free counselling, therapy and support to students with difficulties that may or may not be related to study.
Their services are open to all UCL students, from all departments, nationalities and backgrounds.

Counselling through SPCS can help you manage the following:

  • A mental health condition, such as depression or anxiety

  • The emotional impact of physical health problems

  • The emotional impact of difficult life events, such as bereavement or a relationship breakdown

  • Difficult emotions, such as anger or guilt

  • Other topics, such as low self-esteem or sexual identity
