As a society, we define ourselves as an intellectual community that is not only aware of our surroundings, but is also motivated to constantly engage in new challenges. We as a society strive to arouse students’ interest in the socio-economic and geopolitical areas by encouraging our fellow peers to examine these social issues in multiple perspectives through various activities.
Exeter Forum
An open-debate-styled competition about current Hong Kong political issues. Participants are able to meet new individuals from other HKPASSes while joining with them to bring attention to various socio-political issues via a series of friendly debates. This year, the topic was ‘The Implications of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Hong Kong’s Economy’.
Birmingham Public Speaking Competition 2021
A platform for students who are passionate about public speaking to enhance their skills, raise their awareness on social issues, and make new acquaintances with fellow cohorts from universities across the UK. The event will cover a wide spectrum of debatable topics, ranging from the latest international political affairs to ethical and moral issues.
LSE Forum
A debate competition acting as a great platform for students of different HKPASSes from various UK universities. Every year, participants debate on various worldwide issues and exchange insights regarding them. This year, our UCLPASS team managed to win 1st place where they debated CUHKCAS (Team A) during the final round. Our speaker Samantha Lo was also awarded best speaker during the finals.
Parliament & Supreme Court Tour
Guided tour by an experienced guide who showed members of UCLPASS, ICPASS, KCLPASS, and LSEPASS the House of Commons and Lords, Central Lobby, St Stephen's Hall, and Westminster Hall. Participants were able to learn about the works of the UK parliament and its relevance today.
Participants were also given an insight into the workings of the Supreme Court, the background to its creation, and some of the famous cases that have been heard there.
Cambridge Quiz 2022
Each year, this event draws out the best and brightest from universities all over the UK in a friendly competition of wit and knowledge, on topics ranging from social issues and entertainment news to Hong Kong culture and sports.
Nottingham MUN 2022
An event that provides an insightful overview on pressing global issues. Participants can expect to be involved in the drafting of resolutions after rounds of negotiations between themselves. Throughout the day, participants will be able to interact with people from other UK universities. The agenda for this year is: Evaluating the possibility of lifting COVID-19 restrictions.
