Social
Service

2022-2023

We provide numerous opportunities for our members to help those in need. Understanding how privileged we are as university students in a stimulating learning environment, we not only cherish the opportunities given but would also like to give back to our society. There is no better way to gain a thorough insight into our society than working hand-in-hand with various stakeholders to tackle different social problems. Therefore, we organise different service programmes throughout the year for our members to enrich their experience outside classrooms.

Amazing Raise 2023

Our flagship event, 'Amazing Raise', was successfully held on the 11th of February, where we raised a total of £1200 for the charity Lewisham Refugee & Migrant Network (LRMN). Our theme this year was 'Refugee Crisis: Burden of Living', and participants were able to experience and learn about this through various games and a city hunt planned throughout the day.

Project Coordinators’ Volunteering

Our Committee members and Project Coordinators helped collected littered rubbish at Starfish Bay to raise awareness about environmental issues and sustainability. This activity simultaneously acted as a bonding opportunity for the Committee members and Project Coordinators to get to know each other better.

Winter Volunteering

By joining in Streets Kitchen's volunteering activities, we helped distribute food and necessities to the homeless community, hoping that they could feel warm and full. Our volunteers got to learn about the hardships faced by the homeless and rough sleepers while learning more about other volunteers’ dedication to helping the homeless.

Freshers' Volunteering

Volunteering at Hong Kong Christian Service, our group spent time with the primary school children at the centre by playing games and making lanterns to celebrate mid-autumn festival. This was a meaningful activity where Freshers got to spend time with children while meeting other UCL Freshers and make new friends.
